Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213
Congratulations on the happy occasion of the upcoming Baptism of your child. We are so pleased that you are here at Church of the Resurrection to celebrate this special day in the life of your family.
All parents should be registered at a church before a Baptism can take place. If you are not currently a member, please call the parish office at (563) 556-7511 to set up a time to meet with Fr. Phil Gibbs to join the parish. Before your child receives the sacrament, it is important to prepare. Church of the Resurrection offers classes monthly. Many couples find it convenient to attend the class before the birth of the child. Godparents are also encouraged to attend, if able, either at Church of the Resurrection or their home parish. If parents have not attended a Pre-Baptism Preparation Class (either here at Church of the Resurrection or at another Catholic Church) in the past three years, they will need to attend one before the Baptism of the child can take place.
If none of the class dates/times work for you, please call Wendy at the parish office to arrange a separate time at (563) 556-7511.
Godparents not only serve as witnesses but they make a commitment to help the parents form the child in the Catholic faith. They should be selected because they are good Christian role models who live and practice their faith. Each godparent will be asked to fill out the following form. Before asking someone to be your child's godparent, please take a moment to read over this form to see what the Catholic Church requires of a person taking on the godparent role.
