Shawl Ministry

Have you ever wrapped yourself in a shawl?  Really wrapped it around yourself? Usually that gives comfort, a feeling that all is well with the world, a sense that life is better now!

So the Shawl Ministry is direct:  it simply provides the shawls!  But there is more!  The shawls are knit with great love and, most importantly, with prayer.  Shawl Ministry is truly an imitation of our God who first “knit me in my mother’s womb!”  (Psalm 139)

Shawl Ministry is usually performed in groups, although individuals may work apart from the group at times.  But the important element is that the work begins and ends with prayer, so that prayer really becomes the “woof” of the fabric.

A shawl created through this ministry is for someone who has a need for comfort of some type, for instance, one who is ill, one who is mourning the loss of a loved one, an expectant mother, a recent divorcee.
The shawl could also be used, however, for prayer or meditation, as a bridal shower/wedding gift, as a graduation, birthday, anniversary, ordination, holiday gift--the list could go on forever
!

Why Not Just Knit Alone?

The advantage to those in a shawl ministry is the gift of working and praying in community, and of sharing the sense of reaching out together to those in need.  Sharing in a Shawl Ministry is just about like wrapping a shawl around oneself!!

If you would like to join one of the Shawl Ministry groups, get more information, or request a shawl for someone, call Sister Francine (556-7511) or email dbq058s@arch.pvt.k12.ia.us
