Music Ministries
Each of us has a treasury of gifts given to us by God. Ministries in the parish community are meant to acknowledge those gifts and encourage you to share them for the praise of God and the building up of the parish community. MUSIC MINISTRY at Resurrection provides musical leadership for the liturgical celebrations of the Resurrection parish community. It is a ministry for those who have a musical interest and ability, and to share these gifts with the People of God. To get involved in any of these ministries, contact Don Marlette, Director of Music and Liturgy, at the Parish Office by email or telephone: 556-7511
Cantors
CANTORS lead the parish in liturgical song when there is not a scheduled choir. They are singers as well as leaders of song. Besides the ability to sing, it is also important for the cantor to be able to animate the assembly to sing praise to God.
Accompanists & Instrumentalists
ACCOMPANISTS work with cantors and/or choirs to support the song of the cantor/choir/assembly. Both piano and organ are used at Resurrection to support the song of the People of God. INSTRUMENTALISTS who are trained on other music instruments are encouraged to share their abilities with the parish community.
Choir Ministries
The ADULT CHOIR provides musical leadership at one Mass each weekend throughout the year, as well as at special parish celebrations. Rehearsals are from Labor Day to Memorial Day on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm in the church music area. During the summer, the choir meets one hour before the Mass at which it is scheduled to sing. The Adult Choir sings a wide variety of musical styles, both traditional and more contemporary.
The SPIRIT ENSEMBLE leads the assembly in song at the 4:00pm Saturday Mass on the second weekend of each month. This enemble is composed of adults, Middle School students and High School students. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome to participate in this group. Rehearsals are one hour prior to the Mass at which the Spirit Ensemble is scheduled to sing.
The YOUTH CHOIR, composed of High School students and Middle School Students, leads the assembly at the 11:00am Mass on the first Sunday of each month. Like the Adult Choir, the Youth Choir sings a wide variety of musical styles. Rehearsals are one hour prior to the Mass at which the choir is scheduled to sing.
The CHILDREN’S CHOIR provides musical leadership at one Mass each month during the school year, as well as at First Communion liturgies.
Handbell & Handchime Choirs
The HANDBELL CHOIR meets Tuesdays at 6:45pm during the eight weeks prior to Christmas and prior to Easter, and supports liturgical song primarily during the Christmas and Easter seasons. Members must be able to read music and previous handbell experience is recommended, but not required.
The HANDCHIME CHOIR meets Wednesdays during the school year, and supports liturgical song at one Mass each month. Composed of middle school students, Handchime Choir members learn basic ringing techniques and group instrumental performance. Members must be able to read music.
