June 7 - GREEN AROUND TOWN
• As the company moves to Dubuque, IBM green efforts are an inspiration for construction and rehabbing! The current rehabbing of the former Roshek building is a recyling model: “Palets line the floor, stacked neatly with everything from ceiling tiles to insulation,” according to a TH article last month. The goal? To keep 75 percent of the materials out of the landfill. Examples: Amish farmers recently bought doors from the site. Wallpaper is donated to local schools to be used for art projects.
• In 2005, Roosevelt Middle School installed geothermal healing and cooling, projected to pay for itself by 2013. “Now, district officials believe the system will pay off the initial investment within five years,” stated an April 24 TH editorial, which added: “But being environmentally friendly is more than just a passing tre nd. The green movement is here to stay.”
• Bright idea for Res parishioners. Are you rehabbing your house? Remember to recycle anything possible and consider going geothermal.
